H2O'C Engineering

Laboratory Facilities

H2O'C Engineering maintains laboratory facilities for the chemical and microbiological analysis of water and wastewater in support of its plant process evaluations and pilot plant studies.

In addition to a Zeiss stereo microscope and a Nikon light microscope with epifluorescence attachment, the laboratory has a Fisher incubator and a range of basic microbiological facilities (pressure sterilizer, refrigerator, balance, membrane filter apparatus, live-dead stains, culture media, borosilicate glassware).

The laboratory also maintains a Hach spectrophotometer, ratio turbidimeter, Corning pH/DO/Conductivity probe, and specific ion electrodes for routine physical and chemical analyses.

Shop facilities are also available for the economical in-house fabrication of portable pilot plant units.

The availability of basic laboratory facilities for the evaluation of water quality enables H2O’C to:

  • conduct field studies of streams, rivers, lakes, and ground waters,
  • assess the effectiveness of emerging water and waste treatment technologies (e.g., ultraviolet irradiation, ozonation, enhanced coagulation, disinfection byproduct control),
  • perform on-site pilot plant studies to determine new process effectiveness (e.g., radium removal) under actual treatment and temperature conditions,
  • analyze source water, treatment plant and distributed water samples for algae, microorganisms, precipitates, corrosion products, and
  • identify substances found in water services and household plumbing systems.
