Dr. John T. O’Connor is a Civil Engineering graduate of The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art, New York City.
He earned a doctorate in Sanitary Engineering and Water Resources from The Johns Hopkins University and is a registered professional Civil Engineer in Illinois and Missouri.
Dr. O’Connor was Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign from 1961-1975 and was subsequently appointed Chair and C.W. LaPierre Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia, a position he held from 1975-1992. From 1992 to 1995, he served as Chief of the Illinois State Water Survey, Champaign, Illinois.
Starting in 1993, Dr. O’Connor founded H2O'C Engineering, a consulting firm specializing in water and wastewater engineering. Today, his firm provides engineering services to numerous Midwestern municipal and industrial utilities.
Dr. O’Connor is an ASCE Fellow and recipient of the ASCE Simon Freese Award and Lecture. A Fulbright Award recipient, he has served as Chair of the Fulbright Awards Committee for Australasia.
Dr. O’Connor is 2002 and 2009 recipient of the Missouri Section, AWWA Dr. Warren A. Kramer Award and has been elected Honorary Member of the Missouri Water and Wastewater Conference. He holds Life Memberships in the American Chemical Society, Water Environment Federation and American Water Works Association.
